About Cast Extras A B O U T PRŌPOSITUM is a story encapsulated in a brightly full-colored graphic novel with a range of construction paper backgrounds, mixed with found materials, colored pencil illustrations, and found photo manipulation techniques for the digitally rendered characters to interact with. Arnold Kai, a man with a shady past as a scam artist, wakes up naked in a field, unaware of who he is or where he is. Upon finding an existential guide, Arnold has to relive the events, harsh relationships through past versions of himself, and the consequences that led to his death. Arnold now has a big decision about what he wants to do after his journey through what is called Wait Space. As a sister project to the comic, " this is where it starts. " is a three-minute animated film following the same storyline and also features mixed-media components. Bentley, Clarence, and Trevor drive out to the middle of nowhere to bury the body of their recently deceased friend, whom they’ve collectively killed. In the process, they relive the instances that led to his death. They will leave the body here and never look back. Little do they know, this is only the beginning. This is where it starts. ​ This project started as a short film idea, developing into a larger narrative for Max Foster's undergraduate thesis project. Arnold Kai Age: 34 (now deceased) Birthday: March 27th There’s always an inkling of regret in the back of Arnold’s mind, but that leads him to be appreciative of learning more about himself and others as he recovers his memories exploring Wait Space. He’s hesitant towards a lot that’s happening but always finds deep satisfaction when accepting a challenge, especially if it involves meeting new people. Guide (Avery) Age: ??? Birthday: January 4th Avery (preferring to be called Guide while working) is a Wait Space advisor. They’re emotionally sympathetic on others’ behalf through their job and often bend the rules a bit to challenge the society they live in. They tend to be smug and rather dramatic, but that’s what makes them fun. (Pre-) Arnold Kai Age: 34 (now deceased) Birthday: March 27th Arnold Kai, before death, is a self-centered man who disregards the feelings of others if it means getting what he needs and wants. Despite that, he keeps his innermost circle very close and well-protected. He has a lot of talents and connections in many pockets, so he always has something up his sleeve. Bentley Russo Age: 32 Birthday: November 30th Bentley is a passionate observer of the world around him, taking a tranquil interest in just about anything. He often lets his sentimentality distract him from priorities and lends himself to getting hurt in social situations (mostly regarding those with Arnold). For years, he has found a passion for teaching entry-level college students. Clarence Mentaur Age: 19 Birthday: August 15th Clarence appears to be nervous and timid, but he’s actually very stubborn and can be turned away from anything quickly. He will often think of himself as higher than a situation but will unknowingly allow himself to be dragged through it anyway. He longs to become attached to people he cares about but has a hard time letting people into his bubble. Trevor Bautista Age: 21 Birthday: May 2nd Trevor is a spontaneous yes-man who attaches himself to his role models. He often mimics them closely, but after a while, he’ll adapt those habits to something more of his own. He’s very protective and a little more intimate than one would find of men his age (he’s a hugger). Trevor comes from a very creative family full of artists, musicians, and cooks. I can't tell you how much I enjoy the Warner Bros. animated feature Osmosis Jones. There's so much character in it, and whenever I find production art from it, I'm always inspired to make work that feels big. There is a graphic novelization of it that I want to get my hands on. If you are someone who owns this media, you should give it to me. I think you'd be surprised by how much money I'd be willing to pay for a comic book loosely recapturing a movie and published by Scholastic in 2001.
